KONVENT, gerechter Zorn und ein Festival-Sommer ohne Ende: Die neue Legacy-Ausgabe #164 steht ganz im Zeichen der dänischen Death-Doom-Hoffnungsträgerinnen Konvent. Mit ihrem dritten Album „Firesky“ sichern sie sich souverän den Soundcheck-Sieg – und damit auch das Cover. Im ausführlichen Interview geht es nicht nur um einen maximal finsteren musikalischen Wuchtbrocken, sondern ebenso um die Wut über gesellschaftliche und politische Entwicklungen, Feminismus und die weibliche Perspektive in einer nach wie vor männlich dominierten Metal-Welt. Ein ganz anderes Jubiläum feiern Accept: Seit 50 Jahren stehen die „Teutonic Titans“ für deutschen Heavy Metal von internationalem Format. Wolf Hoffmann blickt anlässlich der großen Jubiläums-Doppel-CD mit nicht weniger als 50 Gastmusikern zurück – allerdings ohne Rentenpläne oder nostalgisches „Früher war alles besser“. Deutlich düsterer wird es bei Sigh: Mirai Kawashima beschäftigt sich auf dem neuen Album der japanischen Avantgarde-Extremisten intensiv mit der eigenen Sterblichkeit. Archgoat wiederum bleiben ihrem Prinzip treu: extreme Musik von extremen Leuten für extreme Leute. Ritual Butcherer spricht mit uns über das neue Album und das Gefühl, dass letztlich alles Leben endet. Auch Lacrimas Profundere blicken inzwischen auf mehr als drei Jahrzehnte Bandgeschichte zurück und erklären unter anderem, warum sie ihren heutigen Sound als „Gothcore“ verstehen. Die erste Co-Titelstory gehört Thronehammer, die mit ihrem neuen Album konsequent den sicheren Weg verweigern: kein „Vanilla Doom“, kein Stillstand und erst recht keine Angst vor Veränderung. In der zweiten Co-Titelstory wollen die griechischen Symphonic-Metaller Elysion mit „Identity“ endlich auch in Deutschland an ihre großen Erfolge im Heimatland anknüpfen – die Qualität dafür ist zweifellos vorhanden. Dazu kommen zahlreiche weitere Geschichten und Veröffentlichungen aus allen Winkeln der Szene, die einmal mehr zeigen, wie breit das musikalische Spektrum des Legacy ausfällt. Auch die Multimania-Seiten, die sich der Welt jenseits von Alben und Konzerten widmen, verdienen diesmal besondere Aufmerksamkeit. Ein Highlight ist das große Feature zum Iron-Maiden-Film „Burning Ambitions“, der einen der größten Namen der Metal-Geschichte aus einer anderen Perspektive beleuchtet.
Und dann wäre da noch der Festivalsommer: Das Legacy-Team war in den vergangenen Wochen quer durch Europa unterwegs und liefert eine gewaltige Nachberichtswelle. KONVENT, righteous anger and a festival summer without end: The new Legacy issue #164 is dominated by Danish Death Doom rising stars Konvent. With their third album “Firesky” they confidently claim the Soundcheck top spot – and with it, the cover. The extensive interview explores not only a monumentally dark and crushing album, but also anger about social and political developments, feminism, and the female perspective within a Metal world that remains largely male-dominated. Accept, meanwhile, have a very different anniversary to celebrate: for 50 years, the “Teutonic Titans” have represented German Heavy Metal on an international scale. Marking the occasion with a massive anniversary double CD featuring 50 guest musicians, Wolf Hoffmann looks back – but without any retirement plans or nostalgic “everything was better in the old days” sentiments. Things turn considerably darker with Sigh, as Mirai Kawashima confronts his own mortality on the Japanese avant-garde extremists’ new album. Archgoat, meanwhile, remain true to their credo: extreme music by extreme people for extreme people. Ritual Butcherer talks to us about the new album and the feeling that, ultimately, all life must end. Lacrimas Profundere can now look back on more than three decades of band history and explain, among other things, why they describe their current sound as “Gothcore”. The first co-cover story belongs to Thronehammer, who resolutely refuse to play it safe with their new album: no “Vanilla Doom”, no stagnation and certainly no fear of change. In our second co-cover story, Greek Symphonic Metallers Elysion aim to use “Identity” to finally replicate their considerable success at home in Germany as well – and the quality is undoubtedly there.
