Ewige Klassiker und die Frage nach dem Vermächtnis: Die neue Legacy-Ausgabe #163 widmet sich einem Thema, das die Metal-Szene seit Jahren beschäftigt. Was geschieht mit den großen Werken und Legenden unserer Musik, wenn die ursprünglichen Bands verschwinden, sich auflösen oder nur noch teilweise existieren? In einer umfangreichen Titelstory beleuchtet das Legacy die Welt der Tribute- und Cover-Acts und spricht mit jenen Musikern, die das Erbe legendärer Bands heute auf die Bühne tragen und damit (teilweise) zu großen Festival-Headlinern werden. Mit dabei sind unter anderem David Vincent von I Am Morbid, Blasphemer (Ex-Mayhem) sowie Erik Danielsson (Watain) von Blood Fire Death, die aus ganz unterschiedlichen Perspektiven erklären, warum diese Musik auch Jahrzehnte nach ihrer Entstehung nichts von ihrer Faszination verloren hat. Ergänzt wird das Special durch Gespräche mit den gefeierten Death-Metal-Tribute-Formationen Death To All und Left To Die sowie Völkerball, Gorefunest, Amon Amorth, Hateville Hatecrew, For Victory und Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench.

Natürlich richtet das Legacy auch den Blick auf jene Künstler, die aktuell an den Klassikern von morgen arbeiten. Den Soundcheck-Sieg sicherten sich die schwedischen Kult-Hexen Bewitched, die eindrucksvoll beweisen, dass traditionsbewusster Heavy-, Black- und Thrash Metal auch 2026 noch voller Energie steckt. Ebenfalls weit vorne platzierten sich Dymna Lotva und Fen, die mit Intensität, Atmosphäre und künstlerischer Konsequenz überzeugen.

Ein weiteres Highlight der Ausgabe ist die umfangreiche Story zum Kultalbum „Rites Of The Black Mass“ von Acheron. Gemeinsam mit Vincent Crowley reisen wir zurück in eine Zeit, als echter Satanismus, chaotische Studioaufnahmen und kompromissloser Underground-Geist den Extrem-Metal entscheidend prägten. Mit den drei Co-Titelstorys zu Behemoths „I, Scvlptor“, DevilDrivers „Strike And Kill“ sowie den KrawallBrüdern und ihren neuen Werken „1993“ und „Stories Of Our Life“ werden zudem drei völlig unterschiedliche Bands und potenzielle Klassiker der Zukunft genau unter die Lupe genommen.

LEGACY #163:

Eternal classics and their legacy: The new Legacy issue #163 tackles a topic that has occupied the Metal scene for years. What happens to the great works and legends of our music when the original bands disappear, break up, or exist only in fragments? In an extensive cover story, Legacy explores the world of tribute and cover acts, speaking with the musicians who carry the legacy of legendary bands onto today's stages – and who, in some cases, have become major festival headliners themselves. Among those featured are David Vincent of I Am Morbid, Blasphemer (ex Mayhem), and Erik Danielsson (Watain) of Blood Fire Death, each offering a unique perspective on why this music has lost none of its power or fascination decades after its creation. The special is complemented by conversations with acclaimed Death Metal tribute acts Death To All and Left To Die, as well as Völkerball, Gorefunest, Amon Amorth, Hateville Hatecrew, For Victory, and Schirenc Plays Pungent Stench.

Naturally, Legacy also turns its attention to the artists creating the classics of tomorrow. Soundcheck victory goes to Swedish cult witches Bewitched, who prove once again that traditional Heavy, Black, and Thrash Metal remain as vital and energetic as ever in 2026. Also ranking highly were Dymna Lotva and Fen, both of whom impress with intensity, atmosphere, and unwavering artistic conviction.

Another highlight of the issue is the extensive feature on Acheron's cult classic "Rites Of The Black Mass". Together with Vincent Crowley, we journey back to a time when genuine Satanism, chaotic studio sessions, and an uncompromising underground spirit played a defining role in shaping Extreme Metal. In addition, three co-cover stories take a closer look at Behemoth's "I, Scvlptor", DevilDriver's "Strike And Kill", and the KrawallBrüder's new works "1993" and "Stories Of Our Life" – examining three very different bands and potential future classics in depth.

The issue also features a wealth of compelling interviews. Alexander Kaschte speaks candidly about the new Samsas Traum album, the burden of classic works, and the question of how art can age with dignity. Nachtmahr demonstrate with their latest release that standing still is never an option, while Martin Kah of Suffering Quota delivers one of the most entertaining interviews of the entire issue.
