Ihsahn & 25 Jahre Legacy: Es war eindeutig an der Zeit, dem „progressiven Chamäleon“ Ihsahn eine Titelstory zu widmen, in welcher er sowohl über seine vielen Solo-Alben als auch über die Emperor-Zeit reflektieren konnte. Das Album „Ihsahn“ bietet dafür selbstredend die ideale Vorlage, gewann die Scheibe doch auch fast schon spielerisch den diesmaligen Soundcheck. Wir erwischten den norwegischen Ausnahmekünstler in persona beim Pressetag in Berlin. Da das neue und selbstbetitelte Album in zwei verschiedenen Formen das Licht der Welt erblickt, nämlich als Metal- und als orchestrale Version, schnappten wir uns außerdem die jeweils zuständigen Produzenten, um tiefer in den Soundkosmos eintauchen zu können. Ein Gespräch mit Cover-Künstler Ritxi rundet die Titelstory ab. 

Diese Ausgabe markiert zudem den Beginn eines besonderen Jubiläumsjahrs: Wir feiern unseren 25. Geburtstag und Mitte des Jahres 2024 unsere 150. Ausgabe. Um dieses Jubiläum gebührend zu feiern, zermartern wir uns ab jetzt Ausgabe für Ausgabe das Hirn, welche Specials wir unserer Leser*innenschaft präsentieren können. Dieses Mal an Bord: eine ausführliche Type-O-Negative-Story, die sich auf 30 Jahre „Bloody Kisses“ und 20 Jahre „Life Is Killing Me“ konzentriert und Interviews mit Originalmitgliedern der Band beinhaltet. Ebenfalls im Blickpunkt: ein Death-Metal-Produzenten-Stammtisch mit den Ikonen Dan Swanö und Scott Burns sowie eine kritische Auseinandersetzung mit den zehn besten Alben im Bereich des Depressive Black Metal und einem exklusiven Interview mit Herr Morbid von Forgotten Tomb über das legendäre Album „Love’s Burial Ground“ (2004). Außerdem: Die deutschen Thrash-Metaller Dust Bolt haben mit „Sound & Fury“ ein fantastisches Album in der Pipeline. Da versteht es sich, dass die Herren die Co-Titelstars dieser Ausgabe geworden sind.

Neben diesen Highlights sind ausführliche Interviews zu den beeindruckenden neuen Veröffentlichungen von Alfahanne, Creeper, Saxon, Vemod, Enterprise Earth und vielen Weiteren das Herzstück dieser Ausgabe. Wie immer ist es unser Anspruch, Euch das Beste aller Welten unserer Szene zu präsentieren. Auch vor Kontroversen wird nicht zurückgeschreckt – so findet sich eine ausführliche Analyse sowie kontextuelle Einordnung des KI-Projekts Frostbite Orckings in diesen 194 Seiten. Das Comeback der norwegischen Black-Metaller Koldbrann muss ebenfalls separat erwähnt werden. Denn nach einer nun veröffentlichten 7“-EP wird es in Bälde ein vollwertiges neues Album zu hören geben. Außerdem: Children Of Bodom existieren leider schon länger nicht mehr, ihre Geschichte lebt aber durch ein Live-Album des letzten Gigs noch einmal auf. IHSAHN & 25 years of Legacy: It was clearly time to dedicate a cover story to the “progressive chameleon” Ihsahn, in which he could reflect on his many solo albums as well as his time with Emperor. The album “Ihsahn” naturally provided the ideal template, having almost effortlessly won this time's soundcheck. We caught the Norwegian exceptional artist in person on press day in Berlin. Since the new, self-titled album has been released in two different forms, a metal and an orchestral version, we also grabbed the respective producers to dive deeper into the sound cosmos. A conversation with cover artist Ritxi rounds off this cover story. 

This issue also marks the beginning of a special anniversary year: We celebrate our 25th birthday and in mid-2024 our 150th issue. To properly celebrate this anniversary, from now on we rack our brains issue by issue about what specials we can present to our readers. This time on board: an extensive Type O Negative story, focusing on 30 years of “Bloody Kisses” and 20 years of “Life Is Killing Me”, including interviews with the original band members. Also in focus: A Death Metal producers' roundtable with icons Dan Swanö and Scott Burns, as well as a critical examination of the 10 best albums in the field of Depressive Black Metal, and an exclusive interview with Herr Morbid from Forgotten Tomb about the legendary album “Love's Burial Ground” (2004). In addition: The German Thrash Metallers Dust Bolt have a fantastic album, “Sound & Fury”, in the pipeline. It goes without saying that these gentlemen have become the co-cover stars of this issue.
Besides these highlights, extensive interviews about the impressive new releases from Alfahanne, Creeper, Saxon, Vemod, Enterprise Earth, and many others are the centerpiece of this issue. As always, our aim is to present you the best of all worlds in our scene. We do not shy away from controversies either – thus, a detailed analysis and contextualization of the AI project Frostbite Orckings is found in these 194 pages. The comeback of the Norwegian Black Metallers Koldbrann also deserves a separate mention. After the release of a 7'' EP, there will soon be a full new album to listen to. Additionally: Children Of Bodom, unfortunately, have been gone for some time, but their history is being revived once again with a live album of the band's last gig. Accordingly, this issue is a true feast for every Metal enthusiast and a worthy start to the anniversary year.
